The colder months are prime for Trophy Brown Trout, as they feed on minnows like Threadfin Shad released from Bull Shoals Dam. Our winter techniques include using shad-mimicking artificial baits for both fly and spin fishing. White to grey marabou flies are key for fly fishing, while white marabou jigs and live bait (shad, shiner, or sculpin minnows) prove effective for bait fishing.

Spring marks a transition to insect and worm diets for both Rainbow and Brown Trout. Fly fishing shines during the Caddis Fly Hatch, with Caddis fly pupa and Midge fly's sub surface. We use worms, crickets, crawdad tails, and shrimp to land big catches.

Despite the summer heat, the White River remains a cool 55°F, making for perfect fishing conditions. Fly fishing with drifting nymphs or Hopper Flies is effective, and spin fishers have great success with whole crawdads, shiner minnows, and worms, often catching upwards of 50 Rainbow Trout a day.

Fall offers stunning scenery and continued great fishing.

Both Rainbow and Brown Trout are still actively feeding, and the approaching Brown Trout spawn in November promises excellent opportunities to catch bigger fish.

Winter is quiet on the river, with fewer boats and peaceful fishing. Brown Trout are in full spawn, and our specialized tactics target both Brown and Rainbow Trout. No matter the season, Capps Guide Service is ready to guide you through Arkansas's best trout fishing experiences.
